Ophelia

There are currently four Ophelia programs available: Camp Ophelia, Club O, Junior Club O, and Miss O, each targeted at specific age groups and each with a complete curriculum that has been researched for outcome effectiveness.  Two newer programs focus on online aggression (Ophelia Online) and creativity (Rewriting Hamlet).

The Ophelia Programs

What is Camp Ophelia?

Established in 2000 as I prepared to publish Surviving Ophelia, this five-day program is designed to help middle-school girls develop self-esteem and healthy relationship skills under the mentorship of trained high school juniors and seniors and guidance counselor directors.  Since then, thousands of young women have participated in camp through middle schools across the country, with consistently positive outcomes from campers, mentors, and parents.

What is Club Ophelia?

While club originally began as a ten-week afterschool program for girls in grades 6-8, requests from teachers, parents and girls themselves led to creation of a four-week Miss O for 2-3rd graders and a six-week Junior Club O for 4-5th graders.  Each program has a standardized evidence-based curriculum, outcome evaluations and training for mentors and directors and uses arts based activities to meet individualized learning objectives.

What is Ophelia Online?

A four-week program specifically for girls who are beginning users of social media and technology, this program helps teach how to develop online relationships that promote wellbeing.  No devices are used but relationship skills online and off are taught through creative real time activities.

What is Rewriting Hamlet?

Using the script for Shakespeare’s play and clips from video productions, girls deconstruct the life of the original Ophelia and work together to give her a happier ending.  At the completion of the program, the creators of the rewrite troupe present their play to an audience of family, friends, and community members.
